01At a glance
SEE — Look Again is an online body-language learning platform. This notice explains how personal information is used when you browse the public website, register, use The Observation Lab, take courses and assessments, play training games, download materials, make purchases or contact our team.
We aim to collect only information relevant to running the service, protecting accounts, recording learning and managing purchases. Different features require different information; you do not need to buy a course to browse the public site.
02Who is responsible for your data?
SEE — Look Again operates see2.net and The Observation Lab. The organisation or individual legally operating SEE is the data controller for the personal information described in this notice.
For privacy questions, email accounts@see2.net or use our contact form.

Please do not submit sensitive personal information in course reflections, messages or other free-text fields unless it is genuinely necessary.
04Why we use information and our legal bases
UK data protection law requires a valid legal basis for processing personal information. The table below describes the purposes and legal bases relevant to SEE’s main activities.
| Activity | Purpose | Likely legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Account registration and login | Set up accounts, verify email, secure access and provide requested services. | Contract; legitimate interests for security |
| Courses, quizzes and games | Deliver training, retain progress, assess submissions and calculate results. | Contract; legitimate interests for free learning features where appropriate |
| Purchases and entitlements | Confirm orders, grant access, assist with payments and provide support. | Contract |
| Financial records | Meet tax, accounting and other legal requirements. | Legal obligation |
| Support and account moderation | Respond to enquiries, address misuse and resolve disputes. | Contract; legitimate interests; legal obligation where applicable |
| Essential technical logs | Keep systems available, prevent fraud and investigate security incidents. | Legitimate interests; legal obligation where applicable |
| Optional marketing, analytics or advertising | Only if introduced and operated in accordance with applicable consent and marketing rules. | Consent or another applicable basis, depending on the activity |
Where we rely on legitimate interests, these include maintaining a secure and reliable learning platform, preventing misuse and responding to support requests, balanced against users' rights and expectations.
05Accounts, profiles and public names
Registration involves collecting information needed to create and verify your SEE account. Account records help us recognise you on return visits and determine which features you may access.
Members can choose a public name or nickname for relevant displays. Other members may see that name together with associated game scores or activity. Account email addresses are not displayed on the member leaderboard. Your settings determine how your public name appears.
Authentication information, email-verification status and account-security events may be retained to protect your account and investigate suspected misuse.
06Courses, assessments and diplomas
When you study a course, SEE records which lessons you have completed, your assessment attempts, answers and results. Certain assessments also ask for written reflections. These records allow the platform to calculate progress, determine completion, issue achievements and produce diplomas or certificates.
Diplomas may contain the name associated with the completed attempt, the course, achievement classification and completion details. Issued certificates and assessment records may be retained to help verify genuine course completion and resolve questions about results.
Authorised administrators may need access to submissions or progress records for technical support, moderation or assessment administration. Learning records are not medical diagnoses, and SEE's body-language exercises should not be treated as definitive judgments about another person's thoughts or intentions.
07Games, quizzes, scores and leaderboards
SEE training games and free quizzes can record answers, scores, game modes, averages and session history. These records support progress tracking, gameplay continuity, achievements and member-facing statistics.
Some leaderboards and activity panels display a member's selected public name and performance. Users should be aware that their selected public display name and relevant results may be visible to other members.
SEE may use aggregate or de-identified usage statistics to understand whether games and learning materials are working effectively.
08Digital purchases, payments and entitlements
SEE sells digital learning courses and downloadable reference materials. When you buy something, SEE needs to identify the order, receive payment confirmation and associate the purchased access with the correct account. This may include the item, amount, currency, date, transaction reference, payment status and entitlement records.
Payments are processed through Stripe. Stripe may process payment and billing details under its own privacy documentation. SEE may receive transaction and billing information needed to confirm payments, handle enquiries, prevent fraud and maintain financial records. SEE does not need to store your complete payment card number to grant digital access.
Access to purchased courses or materials may remain linked to an account while an entitlement is valid. Refund eligibility, purchase conditions, licence rules and digital-content rights are described in our Terms of Use.
09Messages, support and account reviews
When you contact SEE, we may keep your name, email address, message content, correspondence history and any information necessary to resolve the enquiry.
The Observation Lab includes member-to-administrator messaging. Authorised administrators may review conversations and account-related issues. Where an account is blocked or under review, relevant records and messages may be used to explain the decision, allow communication and protect the platform. Administrative hiding or archiving of a message does not necessarily mean that every underlying record is immediately deleted.
We use this information to respond to requests, maintain the service, enforce reasonable platform rules and handle complaints or disputes.
10Who may receive your information
Personal information may be accessed by authorised SEE administrators and shared with service providers only where needed for the service. Categories may include:
- Website and database hosting: to operate SEE's public pages, account system and learning records.
- Payment processing: Stripe, to process transactions and related payment matters.
- Email delivery and mailbox services: for verification messages, account notices and support correspondence.
- Security and technical support providers: when required to investigate incidents or maintain the service.
- Authorities or professional advisers: where disclosure is required by law or necessary for legitimate legal claims.
We do not sell personal information. Where additional analytics, advertising or external integrations are introduced, we will provide information about relevant providers and purposes as required by law.
11How long information is kept
Information is kept for as long as necessary for its purpose, rather than indefinitely by default. Retention may depend on whether an account is active, whether a purchase is outstanding, whether a certificate needs verification, and whether legal or security obligations apply.
| Record type | Retention approach |
|---|---|
| Account and profile | While an account is active, and afterwards only where there is a continuing lawful reason to keep the information. |
| Learning progress and certificates | While needed to provide progress history, issued awards and legitimate verification. |
| Game and quiz results | For the period needed to provide learning history and leaderboard features, subject to any applicable deletion request and lawful retention requirement. |
| Support and account-review messages | For the period necessary to resolve requests, disputes and safety concerns. |
| Transaction and accounting records | For applicable tax, accounting and other legal retention requirements. |
| Technical and security logs | For a limited operational/security period unless an investigation requires longer retention. |
Account closure may lead to deletion or anonymisation of data, but it does not automatically remove records SEE is legally required or otherwise lawfully entitled to keep.
12Security and international processing
SEE uses account verification, session-based access, entitlement checks, administrative permissions and controls intended to reduce unauthorised access. We also use technical measures intended to protect the service against misuse. No online system can guarantee absolute security.
Some hosting, payment, email or other providers may process information outside the UK. Where a restricted international transfer occurs, SEE must ensure that the relevant UK adequacy arrangement, approved safeguard or other lawful transfer mechanism applies, and provide further information on request where required.
You can contact SEE for further information about international transfers and the protections that apply.
13Your data protection rights
Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, you may have the right to:
Access
Request a copy of your personal information.
Correction
Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
Erasure
Request deletion when the legal conditions are met.
Restriction
Ask us to limit certain processing in eligible situations.
Portability
Receive certain information in a reusable format where the right applies.
Object
Object to processing based on legitimate interests and to direct marketing.
Right to object: You can object to processing based on our legitimate interests in relevant circumstances. You can object to direct marketing at any time.
Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting earlier lawful processing. Rights are not absolute and some records may need to be retained lawfully.
To make a request, email accounts@see2.net. We may ask for information to verify identity. We will respond within the applicable statutory period, normally one month for UK GDPR requests, subject to lawful extensions.
14Cookies and similar technologies
SEE's website and member area may use session cookies and similar technologies for sign-in, account security, navigation and requested functionality. Cookies that are strictly necessary to provide a requested service can generally be used without consent, but users still need clear information about them.
Non-essential analytics, advertising or tracking technologies may require consent and appropriate choices before use. See our separate Cookie Policy for information about cookie categories and available controls.
15Children and younger users
SEE provides online body-language education through lessons, games and assessments. Younger users should involve a parent or guardian when considering registration and purchases. Additional data-protection safeguards may apply to online services likely to be accessed by children in the UK.
16Automated scoring and decisions
SEE uses automated rules to mark many quiz and multiple-choice assessment answers, calculate scores and determine course completion or achievement levels. These rules are part of the learning service and are not intended to make medical, employment, credit or other comparable decisions about users.
Administrative actions, such as reviewing messages or restricting an account, may involve human review.
17Changes to this notice
We may update this notice when SEE introduces new features, service providers or data-handling practices, or when legal requirements change. The revision date will be updated. Where a change materially affects how information is used, we will provide additional notice when required.
18Questions, requests and complaints
For questions about this notice or to exercise a privacy right, email accounts@see2.net or use the contact page.
You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). You do not need to contact SEE first, although we welcome the opportunity to resolve concerns.
